The Apostle Paul had a deep relationship with the Philippian Christians. Ten years prior to writing his epistle to the Philippians he journied to Philippi as the first stop on his 2nd missionary endevor. His early relationships with these men and women shapped his words to them.
Philippi was the first city where Paul preached after receiving his “Macedonian Vision.” (Acts 16:10) Founded by Alexander the Great’s father, Philip II of Macedon, Philippi was located in central Macedonia 10 miles north of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Apostle Paul wrote Philippians approximately ten years after he first proclaimed the gospel in Philippi (52-54 A.D.).
